Mercedes-Benz Showroom in Tashkent, 3,200 m²

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz dealership in Kokand: a 1,200 m² showroom with a ramp along the glazing, a handover bay and the service wing. Architecture and interiors by SAD, 2020.

About the project

A Mercedes-Benz dealership built to the manufacturer's global retail standard. The standard fixes almost everything: materials, light levels, aisle widths, the order of zones from the door to the deal. The architect's work here is not to invent but to fit someone else's regulation into a specific building with its columns, floor heights and ramps — without losing a single requirement on the way.

How the hall works

The display runs as a spiral: a single car in the window at the entrance, the main range in the centre, a ramp to the upper level along the glazing. A buyer walks the whole hall without doubling back and at every turn sees the next car rather than the door.

Light and material

Dark ceiling and floor, pale timber in the consultation areas — the contrast is set so that the car stays the brightest object in view. The linear fittings run along the axis of the hall and light the body from above rather than head-on: otherwise the paint flares and its colour reads wrong.
