Private retreat in Gazalkent: the house with terraces above the pool — SAD studio

Private retreat in Gazalkent

A private retreat in the Uzbek national style in Gazalkent: reconstruction of existing houses, an Uzbek courtyard with pavilions on the water and a shared pool. Architectural design by SAD studio, 2013.

A retreat in the traditions of the East

The client asked to reconstruct existing houses into a private retreat. Guests, foreign visitors among them, were to be immersed in Eastern culture, so a traditional Uzbek courtyard was designed at the heart of the site. The materials are natural: timber, brick and marble.

Pavilions on the water

The courtyard has pavilions on the water, plenty of planting and a shared pool. Domes, pointed-arch windows and carved stone act as ethnic decoration and tie the house to its setting.
