Samarkand Airport
Three venues in the passenger terminal of Samarkand airport — a beer bar, Burger & Pizza and a Sandwich & Breakfast Bar. Each has its own character, yet all are built from one shared set of materials. Interior design by SAD studio, 2022.
Three venues in one terminal
In the passenger terminal of Samarkand airport the studio designed the interiors of three venues: a beer bar, Burger & Pizza and a Sandwich & Breakfast Bar. At an airport the task is always the same: a person arrives with a suitcase, with anything from ten minutes to two hours to spare, and does not want to hunt for a seat. So each format has its own speed — a fast takeaway counter, places for a short stop and a hall where you can sit until boarding.

A material for each format
The beer bar is built on timber: a coffered ceiling, fins along the shopfront, lit round niches behind the bar. Burger & Pizza works on contrast — white ceiling fins, terrazzo and an orange counter panel, so the point is visible from the terminal concourse. The Sandwich & Breakfast Bar went into light stone and vaults: it is a morning format, so the interior rests on the soft light of pendant lanterns.
